V day

Well Febuary 14th and how can I not mention it? This year I was determinded not to notice it, to let it come and go like any other day, but how can you ignore valentines days when its become such a big part of our culture even in actively ignoring it your joining the ranks of the people who put significance on the day even if the significance is in the form of aposing it. I don’t however apose valentines day, whilst the sinic in me loves the image of the bitter old woman rocking back and forwards on the porch waveing her cane at young couples as they steel by holding hands I don’t apose the day.
I do have one thought for the day How do we ever really know if we love someone or if what we are in love with is the idea of that person or what we think that person could become. Most people will agree that we never really know someone, we might think that we do and then they go and do something out of character and we realize that wist we thought we knew them we had boxed them in so tightly that we had failed to see some sublt shift or change in them the fact of the matter is most people don’t even know them selves knowing another person who constantly learning and changing and whos thoughts you do share 100% of the time is neer on imposible. So when we say we love someone what is it we love? The idea we have of someone not the actual person

I think there are a number of reasons why people love other people, some times your right and its because they have an idea of who the person is, sometimes they just like the way they feel when they are around the person, sometimes they know enough about the person to feel that the person is right for them and there is compatibility (a spark), then of course there are things like history, shared experiences and shared sense of humour, there are probably other reasons, I just can’t think of them at the minute ;)

Any of the above, or a combination thereof is no less legitimatly love than any other, we need to learn to accept love more readily, whether it comes in the form of family, friendship or partnership.

It’s not quite so deep as Chris’s comment above, but I always liked the saying…

“Men marry women hoping they’ll stay the same, and women marry men hoping they’ll change!”

I think chris hit the nail on the head particully …”just like the way they feel when they are around the person” , good work chris, love is exactly that.
